SPANISH FORK -- A small plane with two people aboard went down Thursday morning near Birdseye in Utah County, officials say.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the Cessna 172 had declared a mayday before crashing.
Utah Highway Patrol officials say on their Twitter account that one person is dead and a second person is in critical condition.
Troopers say the plane was at the side of State Route 89 and that the road was closed.
Kenitzer says the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
