Sherman F. Olsen and Rita Mae Olsen of Roy celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family at Maddox Ranch House Restaurant.

They were married June 18, 1953, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple.

He was born in Franklin, Idaho, on March 7, 1933, at his parents’ home. He graduated in Preston, Idaho, from Preston High School in 1951. He also graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in 1962. After graduation, he was employed by Utah Power & Light Co. for 33 years. He enjoys model trains and has many set up in their home at Christmastime. He also enjoys building model airplanes.

She was born in Richmond on June 22, 1932, in her parents’ home. She graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond in 1950 and Utah State Agricultural College in 1954. She worked for Preston School District, teaching at Franklin Grade School, and for Davis School District at Doxey Elementary School in Sunset and Wasatch Elementary School in Clearfield.

She was honored to be in “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” and “KSL’s Teacher of the Day.” She taught school for 27 years. She has been a member of the American Business Women’s Association and “ADK,” a teacher’s sorority. Music has been an important part of her life. She plays organ and piano, and writes music. She wrote “It’s Autumn Time” in the Primary Children’s Songbook.

The couple has enjoyed many years dancing together and belonged to three dance clubs and served as officers. They have enjoyed traveling with friends.

They are active members of the Roy Municipal Park Ward.
