Terry and Linda Schmiett Allen of Ogden celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the Maddox Ranch House Restaurant on June 8.
A Hyrum native, he returned from an LDS mission and met her on a “blind date” while attending Utah State University. She grew up in Roosevelt. He has often joked, “She was the most blind date I ever had!” Linda really is legally blind.
They were married June 14, 1963, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. They spent their honeymoon en route to Fort Benning, Ga., after he graduated from USU and received an ROTC commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Later they moved to Ogden, and he began a 38-year career in the LDS Church Educational System as a seminary teacher and administrator. Three years later, she completed a degree and graduated from USU. She was a full-time mother and part-time piano teacher.
Both have served in many church positions. She was ward/stake organist, compassionate service leader, and president of Primary/Relief Society. He was bishop in two wards, counselor in the stake presidency in two stakes, and the Ogden Temple. She enjoys playing piano, knitting and her family. A sports enthusiast, he has coached youth basketball, baseball and soccer. He enjoys watching his children and grandchildren participate in their activities, reading, family history and volunteering at the Ogden FamilySearch Library.
Their children are Scott and Camie Allen, Wendy and Dan Murdock, Cindy Allen (deceased), Brian Allen and Lisa Allen. They have 10 grandchildren.
