SALT LAKE CITY -- A tandem-trailer spilled thousands of gallons of asphalt off state Route 31 in Sanpete County.
Salt Lake City CBS affiliate KUTV reports that most of the 8,900 gallons of emulsified asphalt being carried by the tankers spilled off an embankment.
Truck driver Curtis Hunt of Ogden told authorities he was gaining speed when his brakes overheated. Hunt was hospitalized for injuries.
Hazmat crews worked to keep the asphalt from reaching a stream.
