West Point plans July 4th festivities

WEST POINT — The city will hold its annual Fourth of July celebration, “Party at the Point,” on Thursday at Loy Blake Park.

The event will start off with a flag-raising ceremony at 6 a.m., followed by the 5K Run/2-Mile Walk, beginning promptly at 6:30 a.m.

Breakfast will be served between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.

The parade begins at 8:30 a.m. and will go from the LDS Church building at 2300 W. 550 North down to 300 North, then west along 300 North, ending at Loy Blake Park.

After the parade, a variety of activities will take place at the park, including a horseshoe tournament; 3-on-3 basketball tournament; baby contest; adult bingo; kid bingo; kids corner; stage contests; all-star baseball game; and talents by the Miss West Point Royalty.

Around 6 p.m. will be the annual Fourth of July dinner.

There is no charge for West Point residents; nonresidents are asked to pay $2 per person.

The evening will be filled with music from the band “Contagious,” followed by a fireworks show, followed by a short movie, “The Looney Tunes.”
