SALT LAKE CITY  -- A medical examiner is trying to figure out why a young woman died in the Salt Lake County jail only a few days after she was arrested for drug crimes.

Alexa Hamme, 25, was found dead in her jail cell early Sunday morning.

Salt Lake City jail spokeswoman Cammie Skogg says there were no signs of trauma or foul play.

Court documents show that Hamme was arrested four days earlier by West Jordan police on suspicion of meth and heroin possession and endangerment of a child or adult.

There are also warrants for Hamme for drugs and failure to stop for police.

Hamme's father told The Salt Lake Tribune his daughter struggled with drug addiction.
