ALTA -- A popular forest road leading into the Alta ski resort is open for the season.
The U.S. Forest Service opened Albion Basin Road on Thursday for summer travel.
To keep traffic manageable, Alta town officials are operating shuttle buses at no charge for visitors into upper Albion Basin under the crest of the Wasatch Range. Wildflowers are a big summer attraction there.
Shuttle service is being offered on weekends and holidays until Labor Day on the 2 1/2-mile road.
Much of Alta ski resort sits on national forest land. The Forest Service says Albion Basin Campground will open July 18, or possibly earlier as the last piles of snow disappear.
