Our View: Thumbs up, thumbs down

Thumbs up: To Kylie Osguthorpe. The Ogden High School senior-to-be has earned herself another year of school in Hong Kong and China, where she goes after graduation. We salute her accomplishment, courtesy of the International Baccalaureate program at the high school.

Thumbs down: To our neighbors who use fireworks in an unsafe manner. It's hot and dry in the Top of Utah, and the law needs to be obeyed. One law states that residential fireworks east of Harrison are ruled out of bounds.

Thumbs up: To a watchful neighbor in Farmington, who noticed a man get out of a car and start rummaging through a car parked in a neighbor's driveway. The woman notified her friend who lived at the house. Police were later able to arrest a suspect based on their descriptions and their providing a license plate number.

Thumbs down: To the poor prospects of migratory game birds visiting Wasatch Front-area wetlands. Due to the drought, and its consequences, the birds' stay may be cut short.

Thumbs up: To Kaysville teen, Jackson Reynolds, 13, who achieved a great accomplishment. The Boy Scout managed to achieve all 132 merit badges that are offered.

Thumbs down: To a fight over a church pew -- that was being saved -- in a Plain City LDS church. Eventually, a man was arrested after he was accused of slugging one man and later allegedly hit him with his vehicle outside the building.
