OGDEN -- Crews extinguished a pair of house fires within two miles of each other Saturday evening.
Firefighters were originally called to 2830 E. Carriage Lane around 7 p.m. The owner of the home, Terry Greenman, said he was downstairs and heard lightning hit the finial on the turret of his home.
"It hit that finial and blew it all to hell," Greenman said. "It sounded like a bomb going off."
Greenman said firefighters quickly arrived on scene and put out the fire.
Crews left that fire to respond to 5456 Karen Drive, where a garage fire had broken out.
Weber County Fire Chief David Austin said the cause of the fire was originally speculated to be lightning, but crews found no evidence that was the case.
Austin said there was roughly $20,000 damage done to the garage, but crews stopped it from spreading through the house, where no one was home at the time of the fire.
The investigation into the fire was ongoing as of Saturday evening.
