Hans and Janet Maass of Riverdale celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a private family party on July 6.
They were married on July 11, 1963, at the Edgewood in Ogden.
They met in Petaluma, Calif., while she was working for her Aunt Wilma at the Wigwam restaurant. He came in all dressed in black and swept her off her feet. They married several months later and settled in Petaluma. After a short time, he brought her back home to Riverdale, where they have lived ever since.
She was born to Wayne and Marian Garfield in Ogden. She graduated from Weber High School in 1961. She worked at the family restaurant, the Troc, for most of her life. She retired as part-owner and operator in 2003. She now works with the severe unit at Roy High School.
He was born to Hans and Ingeborg Maass in Flensburg, Germany. His family came to the United States in 1952 and settled in Petaluma, where he graduated from Petaluma High School in 1956. He has worked as an auto and marine mechanic at many shops in the area. He retired as service manager from Peterson Marine in 2000. He is currently a bus driver for Weber County schools.
They enjoy traveling and spending time with their family. They have four daughters: Kim Noorlander, Teresa Maass, Steph Osguthorpe and Shannon and her husband Gaylen Pickett. They have 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
