HILL AIR FORCE BASE -- As furloughs begin this week, Hill Air Force Base officials have said they won't be granting media interviews on the topic, but released a statement.
Beginning this week most civilian employees at Hill will be furloughed each Friday until the end of the fiscal year.
As a result, Hill's heavily civilian-populated workforce will see a reduction in pay of about 4.3 percent for the fiscal year, and units on base will reduce operations considerably on furlough days.
"The impacts of the furlough will be felt across the installation because civilian employees make up about two-thirds of the 'total team' workforce here," the statement reads. "Our civilians are critical members of the team and essential to everything we do. Whatever fiscal challenges are present, we will continue to work with our community partners to sustain our core missions and provide our nation with the cost-effective military readiness it needs."
