In light of the recent youth soccer referee's death, the July 5 "In the Bleachers" cartoon that was printed in the sports section was in very poor taste. It was a very tragic event for the referee's family and the family of the teen who pulled the fatal punch. The Standard should have shown compassion for both families instead of printing a cartoon showing light of an incident. The cartoon showed two witches stirring a cauldron. The caption read, "If we organize a youth soccer league, we'd never go hungry...Just sayin'."
I would think the Standard would offer an apology to both families to show that they do care about those who suffer such a tragic loss.
