HUNTSVILLE: Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend Kathryn Fay Jensen Ensign returned to her heavenly home on July 9, 2013 after a short illness.
She was born on June 28, 1935 in Ogden, Utah, the sixth child of Wilmer C. and Isabel Grow Jensen. She was raised and educated in Huntsville, graduated from Weber High School, and attended Weber College and BYU.
Kathryn married Richard Ensign on March 14, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a dedicated, loving mother to their four children. They lived in Riverdale for 11 years and then settled in Huntsville. She loved the view of the beautiful Ogden Valley from their home. Kathryn was a devoted wife to Richard and especially enjoyed their retirement years. She often commented about the fun they had together as a couple.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings including Relief Society President and Counselor, Young Women’s President and Counselor, Primary President and Counselor, Ward Choir Director, Ward Music Chairman, and Compassionate Service Leader.
Richard and Kathryn served a full-time mission for the L.D.S. church assigned to the Salt Lake Family History Library from 1997-1998. They continued to serve at the Ogden Family History Center from 1998 until earlier this year.
Kathryn cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. She often invited her grandchildren for sleepovers which included walks to the river bottoms and park playground. She was an avid quilter and made a beautiful quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. Her family enjoyed her homemade chocolates, rolls, raspberry jam, and apple pie and juice. She loved to sing and participated in various choirs and groups throughout the years. Most importantly, she was an example of faith and testimony to everyone around her.
She found joy in serving others. Kathryn cared for her mother, mother-in-law, sister, and neighbors in the later years of their lives. She took great pleasure in her pioneer heritage and compiled extensive family histories and pictures of ancestors to share with relatives. She also volunteered at the Huntsville History Library.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Douglas and Keith, and two sisters, Dorothy and Beth.
She is survived by her dedicated and loving husband of 56 years, four children: Carol (Randy) Coleman of Riverdale, Darla (Robert) Taylor of Layton, Richard (Stephanie) Ensign of Kaysville, and Douglas (Valerie) Ensign of West Haven, one sister Joan (Dwayne) Pace of Wanship, twelve grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at the Huntsville LDS 2nd ward, 277 S. 7400 E. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, July 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street in Ogden and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
