WEST VALLEY CITY -- West Valley City Police say a former officer faces possible criminal charges after he was accused of stealing prescription pills from the home of a man whose death he was investigating.
The department said in a statement Wednesday that the officer resigned shortly after the incident last month, which was witnessed by another officer.
West Valley Police say the officer was immediately placed on administrative leave, and soon after resigned rather than being fired.
Cottonwood Heights Police are investigating the situation.
West Valley City Police say they are disappointed in the officer's actions but are proud of the other officers on the force "who took immediate and appropriate action."
