SALT LAKE CITY -- A Salt Lake City Justice Court judge is facing felony drug charges carrying the possibility of up to 15 years in prison.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that 46-year-old Virginia Bauskett Ward was charged July 5 in 3rd District Court with two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute.
Ward was arrested March 30 in a federal Drug Enforcement Administration investigation.
She's accused of receiving more than 100 parcel packages containing shipments of the painkiller Oxycodone for distribution to other people.
Documents allege that Ward admitted knowing the pills were illegally distributed.
The Tribune reports that the case will be heard by a judge from Tooele County because of Ward's position.
She spent 11 years as a judge, and has been on administrative leave since her arrest.
