FARMINGTON -- A candidate's withdrawal from the race Wednesday reduces the number of primary races that will come before voters Aug. 13. Scott Isaacson withdrew his candidacy for a four-year seat on the city council.
Isaacson's withdrawal leaves four candidates for two four-year seats on the council.
He cited a conflict of interest related to a development in the city as the reason he withdrew. The Haws Company initiated legal action against the city earlier this week, for a development across the street from Station Park.
That leaves the only primary race between three candidates seeking to fill the remaining two years on a seat won by Nelsen Michaelson in 2011. Michaelson moved out of town, and one year of his term was filled by Cindy Roybal, who also opted out of the race. That leaves Doug Anderson, Kristen Harbertson and David Stringfellow as the only candidates whose names will be on the ballot in August. One of the candidates will be eliminated in the primary vote.
