SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah and Arizona law enforcement agencies have seized more than $8 million in heroin in other drugs after a joint sting operation that resulted in the arrests of 17 people.
The Utah County Major Crimes Task Force announced the joint operation Thursday, along with Salt Lake County, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Authorities seized 90 pounds of heroin -- 60 in the Phoenix area and 30 in Salt Lake County. They also seized $400,000 in cash and 22 vehicles.
Lt. Phil Murphy with Utah County says officials believe it is one of the biggest heroin busts in Utah history.
Murphy says in a statement that the investigation targeted drug trafficking organizations suspected to be operating in Utah and five other states.
