Regarding the July 20 news story, "Graduating getting easier," where in the real world do you not have to abide by rules or laws? Where in the work force do you keep a job and get a pat on the back and told it is okay not to complete your expected work assignments? It is a shame that the school district seems to care more about their statistics/ratings than to actually working on problem-solving with these kids.
Excusing poor behavior and laziness is a slap in the face to all those kids out there who do follow the rules and are doing their school work. It is another free handout that produces more individuals who feel they deserve everything without having to earn it.
I can't think of any employer who is going to be impressed with an "alternate" diploma. Help these kids get their GED, which says a lot more about their character and willingness to work.
