Lyman Verl Mecham of Morgan will celebrate his 80th birthday. Family and friends may join him and his family at an open house celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. on July 27 at the LDS Rock Church, 10 W. Young St., Morgan. No gifts.
The eighth of 10 children, he was born July 26, 1933, in Milton to Leland and Reta Mecham.
In 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Deanna Waldron, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.
Their five daughters and spouses are Pamela and Mark Huerta, Pauline Mecham, Sherrie and Mark Rich, Sue and Stan Stark, and Melanie and Eric Moore. They have 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He has been and continues to be an active member in the community and the LDS Church. He has served as bishop twice and stake president. He and his wife completed a mission in Adam-ondi-Ahman, Mo.
He partnered with his brother, Geary Mecham, to form Mecham Brothers Construction. He was the heavy equipment operator for the company for 42 years before "semi" retiring.
He enjoys spending time with his family at Mecham Meadows four-wheeling, riding the snow cat, and supporting his grandchildren in their sports activities and every Sunday night popcorn parties.
