KAYSVILLE -- A K-9 sniffed out the drugs and officers found a handgun in a car driven by a man who was under the influence of marijuana.
Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. Susan Poulsen said when a deputy did a traffic stop on Interstate 15 on Saturday around noon, the driver "stopped his vehicle in the lane of travel" instead of pulling into the emergency lane.
The deputy could smell marijuana, and his K-9 also indicated there were drugs in the car, Poulsen said.
There was also a small child in the car, riding unrestrained, she said.
The officer searched the vehicle and found small amounts of drugs and a handgun.
The child was released to another family member, and the officer booked Maurice Jamaal Parker, 27, in Davis County Jail on multiple charges, including three counts of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of a firea
