AMERICAN FORK -- Scott Fairbanks shot 13-under par to win the 54-hole UGA Senior Amateur by three shots at his home course at Fox Hollow in American Fork last Saturday.
Fairbanks shot 70-67-66 for a 203 total. UGA senior match play champion Kirk Siddens finished three shots back in second place, and Jeff Powars took third place, another five strokes back.
Fairbanks conceded that his home course knowledge gave him a bit of an edge.
"The greens were perfect and just the right speed. Usually when I get on really fast greens I have trouble," he said.
Siddens also felt there was a bit of a home-course advantage, but that is always a factor in golf, and pointed out that "Joe Parkinson and Jon Wright both won the State Ams on their home courses."
Siddens was the first-round leader with a strong opening round of 68 while Fairbanks started the tournament with a 70.
It marked the first time the UGA Senior Am has been a 54-hole event.
Brent Tidwell won the super senior division, which wrapped up Friday of the Utah Senior Amateur Friday at Fox Hollow. He shot 74-71-145 and coasted to victory with an eight-shot margin over runnerup Doug Horne, who shot 79-74-153 for second place.
Steve Holm won the Net Division of the tournament with a two-day score of 11 under par net with rounds of 69-64-133.
