Brigham City- Remona Wardell Atkinson, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Remona was born August 23,1933 in Coalville, Utah, to Owen Douglas Wardell and Margaret Wiseman Rees. She grew up on the family farm in Rockport, Utah, where she learned to love animals, work hard, and enjoy fun times. After high school, she and a friend moved to Salt Lake City to work and attend school.

Remona worked for the LDS Church for 5 years until she met and married Dennis N. Atkinson on February 1, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They became the parents of 4 children and resided in Smithfield, Utah. Remona loved her family, family activities and family trips. She had a gift of making each one feel special and a close relationship with each individual was always her goal.

Remona was involved in Family History Research, and especially writing family histories of ancestors. She served as a stake missionary for two years in South Ogden and also completed a service mission at the dry-pack cannery in Ogden. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many auxiliaries. Remona had a deep and abiding faith and trust in the Lord. She had the ability to keep a positive attitude and persevere, even amid difficult challenges.

Remona worked for over 20 years as an Administrative Assistant at Utah State University in Logan. Following her retirement, she began taking oil painting classes and created many beautiful works of art. She loved this satisfying hobby and each child and grandchild has their own original painting to enjoy.

Remona is survived by her 4 children, Steven (Kaye) Atkinson, Kathryn (Dale) Densley, Joyce (Dave) Pierson, and Brian (Louise) Atkinson.At present the posterity has grown to 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Gail Wardell and Jay (Darinda) Wardell; and 3 sisters, Dorothy Marchant, Colleen (Orland) Crandall and JoAnne (Bill) Holyoak. Remona was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Margaret Wardell.

We wish to thank the excellent medical team at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden for the care and encouragement they gave our Mom. We also want to thank Encompass Hospice for all of their support, care and kindness.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 12 Noon at the South Box Elder Stake Center, 865 South 300 West.

A viewing will be held prior to the funeral on Saturday at the Stake Center from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
