SALT LAKE CITY -- Prosecutors have filed charges against a woman they say locked her 4-year-old son in his room while she left for work.
Court documents show 26-year-old Bobbi Jo Schantz has been charged with five counts of neglect of a disabled child.
Police say Shantz would lock him in the bedroom of their home in Sandy and then leave for work. She would leave food, water and a port-a-potty.
The boy told investigators this happened a many times between April and June of this year.
Shantz told investigators she didn't have anybody to take care of her son. She says she didn't leave him alone more than five times.
A pediatrician told investigators that locking a young child in a room repeatedly would cause psychological damage.
