BOUNTIFUL -- A man is in jail after police found he had turned his girlfriend's kitchen into a makeshift drug lab.
Michael Brandon Turner, 35, was arrested on charges of child endangerment, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and keeping a clandestine drug lab.
Thursday afternoon, police were dispatched to 424 W. Center Street on a domestic violence call, Sgt. Andrew Boyson of Bountiful Police said.
The female resident of the apartment said she had been verbally fighting with Turner, her boyfriend, who had been baby-sitting her kids. Turner had left and police found and arrested him after learning he had an outstanding warrant.
Police took him back to the apartment and found that he had been using the apartment kitchen to cook methamphetamine. They found several grams of meth in plastic bags and more being prepared on a baking sheet. Two young children were in the apartment at the time, prompting police to call the Division of Child and Family Services.
Boyson said two of the officers had to be taken to a nearby clinic for treatment after inhaling chemicals from the lab. The children were unharmed and released to the mother.
The DCFS has opened a case to determine if the children are in safe care with the mother.
The apartment is also government subsidized, so the woman will most likely be evicted unless she can prove she had no prior knowledge to her boyfriend's activities, Boyson said.
There was no probable cause to arrest and charge her with anything, he said.
