John Cephus Ratcliffe, passed away July 19, 2013 of congestive heart failure. He was born January 13, 1928 in Newport, VA to Ira and Nora Smith Ratcliffe.
He joined the Navy at age 17 and served in World War II. He married Carol Lundgren in the Salt Lake City Temple, August 15, 1952, they were later divorced. On April 26, 1991 he married Collett Porter in the Salt Lake City Temple.
John served in many positions in the LDS Church, and also served in the Boy Scouts of America for 25 years. After 25 years of service he retired from HAFB in 1987.
He is survived by wife, Collett and his children, Sally (Stan) Bouck, Will (Amelda), Chris, Tina (Howard) Graham; five grandchildren, Justin, Adam, Cody, Mitchell and Jordan; two great granddaughters, five step sons, and 14 step grandchildren, great 16 step grandchildren, three brothers and five sisters and many step children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Carol and two sisters.
Services will be held at Falcon Ridge Ward, 1325 East Cherry Lane, Layton, Utah on July 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. Family and friends may gather Monday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, and Tuesday at the church 9:30- 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at Uintah Cemetery, 1500 East 6300 South, where military honors will be accorded. A special thanks to the many doctors and nurses at McKay Hospital, Davis Hospital and the excellent care from nurses and staff at Legacy Village Rehab in Layton.
