MIDWAY -- A 12-year-old Utah boy is recovering after a nail pierced his heart while he was mowing his family's lawn in Midway.
KSL-TV reports that Abe Tullis was thinking about starting a summer yard work business with his friends and decided to practice by mowing his own lawn mower on June 4.
He had just started when a loose nail got caught in the lawn mower blade, and shot out into his chest. He was flown to a hospital in Salt Lake City after doctors discovered it had pierced the left ventricle of his heart.
Surgeons did open heart surgery, removing the nail and saving his life.
The boy is back to playing soccer and being a normal kid, but he's not mowing the lawn anymore. The family has hired landscapers.STORY:201307270003Midway boy recovering after nail pierces heart while mowing lawn/Local/2013/07/27/Midway-boy-recovering-after-nail-pierces-heart-while-mowing-lawn.html-1
