CLEARFIELD -- A 5-year-old South Ogden girl was seriously injured after being attacked by a dog in the yard of a Clearfield home this morning.
According to a Clearfield Police press release, the girl's family was visiting family members at a home at 2262 S. 300 West when the girl went into the yard to play. At approximately 8:20 a.m., family members heard the girl's screams. An uncle ran out into the yard and observed the next door neighbor's dog, a 3-year-old Husky, dragging the girl by the throat over the 3 1/2-foot fence separating the yards.
According to the uncle, the dog was shaking and dragging the girl around the yard, the press release states. The uncle jumped over the fence and the dog released the girl and retreated.
The family put the girl in a vehicle and began transporting her to Davis Hospital and Medical Center as other family members called 911. Davis County Sheriff's Paramedics met the family vehicle on the way to the hospital and rendered first aid before she was transferred to an ambulance and taken to the hospital. She was then airlifted from the hospital to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. She was listed in critical condition but her injuries are not considered life threatening, police said.
Police did not release the name of the girl or the dog's owner. The case is being investigated by Davis County Animal Control.
