Fifty years ago, Gary and Kathryn Weaver Manning of West Point were married on Aug. 1, 1963, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. They plan to celebrate by attending a session at the Salt Lake LDS Temple and with a commemorative dinner party hosted by their children at the Maddox Ranch House Restaurant.
They have enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, floating the Green River, riding four-wheelers, motorcycles and horses, attending sporting events, dance recitals, band concerts, and traveling and cruising with many friends.
He was born in Ogden to Elmer and Velma Manning. He graduated from Davis High School in 1961 and attended Weber College. He worked as an aircraft structural supervisor at Hill Air Force Base for 36 years. After retirement, he worked for Logistic Specialties Inc. as a consultant for 10 years.
She was born in Brigham City to Ezra and Lillie Weaver. She graduated from Weber High School and LDS Seminary in 1963. She was a stay-at- home mother until her children were older. She then worked with intellectually and physically challenged students, K-6 grade in the Davis School District.
Both have served in many LDS Church callings. Her favorites are ward and stake Relief Society president. They operated the West Point City Recreation Department for 14 years.
Their children and spouses are Paulette and Scott Hopfenbeck, Michele and John Winterbottom, Brady and Shaylee Manning, and Tiffany and Paul Shaffer. They have 13 grandchildren.
