Margie Vilate Christensen of West Haven was honored for her 80th birthday with a family-and-friends picnic. She also celebrated on a cruise to Alaska with family members.
She was born in Salt Lake City on July 29, 1933, to Alexander Joel Pehrson and Lula Vilate Parks. She married George Robert Christensen on March 2, 1951. Their vows were solemnized on Sept. 23, 1958, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. They were married 57 years before he died in 2008.
Their six sons, two daughters and their spouses are Mike and Lori Christensen, Ron and Shari Christensen, Corey and Elaine Christensen, Gayle and Roger Barth, Troy and Sharalin Christensen, Chris and Jennifer Christensen, Ann and Brian Nixon, and Eric and Emily Christensen. Their posterity continues to grow with 31 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Her children have served six missions and her grandchildren have served 11 missions for the LDS Church. She and her husband worked for 25 years as church custodians and served a service mission to the Ogden Cannery. She has served in many callings in the LDS Church.
Her family says that they love her very much and treasure the memories they have of her as their mother and grandmother.
