RIVERDALE -- A brawl involving 30 people and an overflow of weapons -- ranging from knives and baseball bats to a hammer -- broke out at a Riverdale mobile home park early Monday morning and then spilled into the parking lot of a nearby retail giant.
Riverdale Police Lt. Scott Brenkman said a 911 call was placed to Weber County dispatch at 2:58 a.m. Monday after a fight started at the Riverdale Mobile Home Estates located at 5100 S. 1050 West.
Brenkman said that when police arrived, the altercation had moved over to the parking lot of the Super Target retail store at 1135 W. Riverdale Road. Approximately 25 to 30 people were involved in the fight, but many fled the scene as soon as police arrived.
Brenkman said police were able to detain about 15 to 20 individuals at the scene and later arrested six adult males and one juvenile. Brenkman said two other adult males will likely be arrested, pending their release from a local hospital.
Arrested in the fight were: Christopher Linn, 21; Levi Michael Stites, 21; Jacob Robert Johnson, 21; Nathan Blaine Christiansen, 21; Cameron Howard Sherwood, 21; and Austin James Clark, 20.
All were booked into the Weber County jail on felony assault charges.
Brenkman said four people suffered non-life threatening injuries in the melee. Those injuries included one person who was stabbed and another who received a head injury from a blunt object.
Police recovered a host of weapons from the scene, including baseball bats, several knives, a cane, crutches and a hammer.
The fight started at a late night party at the mobile home community when two people began arguing over a debt.
"This whole thing appears to be over a very minor debt," Brenkman said. "The person (to whom the debt was owed) got a group of friends together and everything escalated from there. It got out of control quick."
Police are still investigating the altercation, but Brenkman said the fight does not appear to be gang-related.
Police also served a search warrant at the mobile home park Monday morning, hoping to gather more evidence and find additional weapons.
