Robert N. "Bob" Tidwell of Ogden will celebrate his 85th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house in his honor from 3 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 4 at the home of his son, 1119 W. 4250 South, Riverdale.
The youngest of seven children, he was born on Aug. 3, 1928, in Amalga to Royal Edwin and Ellen Tidwell.
While serving in the U.S. Army, he met and married Maxine Stroud Tidwell, who died July 22, 2008. They were married on March 1, 1948, in Clarksville, Tenn. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple.
Their five children and spouses are Darlene Tidwell (deceased), Robert (deceased) and Debra Tidwell, Brenda and Michael Squires, Elden and Marian Tidwell, and Lisa and Shawn Gleason. He has 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Army, and worked for Swift and at Hill Air Force Base for 35 years before retiring. For years, he held a position working for the ward he attended. He enjoys gardening, volunteering, helping at his ward, helping others, temple work, being a member of the Golden Spike Rock Club and telling his children and grandchildren stories of his youth. He goes to the gym every day and is the oldest member there. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed camping, skiing and golf, and still enjoys spending his spare time fishing.
He and his wife traveled to visit relatives and his children who live out of state. They spent many winters rock hunting in Arizona.
