WEST WENDOVER, Nev. -- Jimmy Blair carded a 3-under par 69 and was tied for the lead Wednesday after the first round of the 2013 Vaughn Baker Utah Senior Open at the Toana Vista Golf Course.
Among the participants starting off on hole No. 10, Blair birdied two of the first four holes he played. He finished the back nine with a 3-under 33. The longtime local pro birdied the par-5 third, dropping to 4-under. However, he bogeyed on No. 6, a par 5, and went out with a 36.
Blair's 69 put him in a three-way tie for the lead heading into today's final round. Brett Sampson and Roy Christensen joined him atop the leader board.
Blair will tee off on No. 1 at 11 a.m. today along with Christensen, Mike Borich and Randy Long.
Davis Park professional Brad Stone carded a 3-over 75 on Wednesday and was tied for 15th overall.
Stone opened his round with a birdie on No. 10, but struggled after that and came in with a 42. He rebounded nicely on the front nine and went out with a 33, which included birdies on holes 3, 5 and 7.
Among other scores of interest from the opening round, venerable local pro Ernie Schneiter notched an 86 and was tied for 65th out of 98 golfers.
Wayne Volk carded an 81. Among the amateurs, Brett Schneiter's 76 was tied for 7th, while Jeff Powars' 82 was tied for 22nd.
