Congress should not fund Obamacare

Senator Mike Lee is leading the fight to defund Obamacare and it may be the last chance to stop this bill before its full implementation. The current budget resolution expires at the end of 2013 and the next appropriations bill will require the support of at least some Republican senators in order to be successful. However, if at least 40 senators join Lee, they can stop a spending bill that funds Obamacare from being enacted. Lee’s alternative is to fund the government sans Obamacare—a much better outcome.
The Constitution grants Congress the power of the purse and Mike Lee is wise to utilize this lever. Members of Congress who are reluctant to join Lee should know that if they fund a bill that includes Obamacare then they are for Obamacare.
The president’s healthcare law needs to be stopped. It discourages businesses from hiring and encourages them to cut hours. It will inevitably increase healthcare costs by artificially raising demand. And it forces us to buy a product we don’t want.
Congress should join Senator Mike Lee in his fight to defund Obamacare.
