Ogden purse-snatching suspect arrested

OGDEN — A woman was upset but uninjured Saturday when a man came up behind her and snatched her purse from her.

The woman, 50, was entering the Smith’s store at 1485 Harrison Blvd., when a man walked up behind her and forced her purse from her, according to a news release from Ogden Police Department.

The man then ran southwest, away from the store. The woman called police.

Responding officers were aided by residents who saw the man jumping fences throughneighborhood yards in his attempt to escape.

The suspect, Jamie Padilla, 25, was found hiding behind a home in the 1500 block of Brinker Avenue, the release states. He was taken into custody without incident. The victim’s purse and cash were recovered. Padilla was booked into Weber County Jail on suspicion of robbery.

Ogden police expressed thanks in the release to those “who helped us take this person off of the streets.”
