PROVO -- An 18-month-old girl is dead after her father accidentally pulled a trailer over her Thursday at their home in Provo, police said.
Authorities said no alcohol or drugs were involved, and they don't expect to file charges in the toddler's death. "At this point, everything's pointing to a tragic accident," Provo police Sgt. Mathew Siufanua said in an interview Friday with KSL-TV.
Siufanua said police received a 911 call about 8:15 p.m. Thursday from the 39-year-old father, who's not being identified. The girl was dead by the time emergency responders arrived.
A trailer full of dirt and concrete had been parked on the side of the house while renovations were being done, authorities said. The father started driving a vehicle forward to move the trailer and felt a bump, but thought it was a rock, police said.
The man's wife later discovered the girl behind the trailer.
Siufanua said all the family's children had been on the front porch, and the father thought the girl was there, too. The mother thought the toddler was with her father.
A traffic accident team was sent to the home to investigate the incident.
