WEST POINT — A man who beat up his parents after he trashed their kitchen is now sitting in jail, officers said.
Wyatt Douglas Rowe, 26, of West Point, has been charged in 2nd District Justice Court with two counts of assault, one count of property damage and one count of disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors.
Davis County Sheriff’s Sgt. Susan Poulsen said Rowe was upset with his parents’ suggestion that he should help more with a remodeling project in their home where he was living.
On Friday, while they were gone, he “had a one-man food fight,” Poulsen said.
“He emptied the fridge and dumped out the trash,” she said.
When his parents got home, they confronted him, and Rowe “beat them up,” Poulsen said.
The parents called 911.
Rowe’s mother and father both had “cuts, bruises and bumps,” from the beating but did not need medical attention.
Rowe was booked in Davis County Jail. No court date has been set, according to the court website, but the case has been assigned to Judge Jerald Jensen.
Poulsen said too many people think domestic violence is just something that happens between couples, but domestic violence is any violent situation that happens between people who live in the same home. It can be siblings hurting each other or adult children abusing their parents. Poulsen said:
“Domestic violence is on the rise in our area, and this incident is just the latest.”
