MANTUA, UTAH - Bert Leaman Freed Jr, 79 a loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.He was born on February 7, 1934 in Brighton, Oregon the son of Bert Leaman Freed Sr. and Leona K. Myers.He married Ann Maycock on June 30, 1956 in California.Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.Bert and Ann were married for over 51 years when Ann passed away in 2007.They had six children, 23 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

Bert later married Wanda Winters Mooy on April 16, 2011 in Mantua, Utah and shared over two wonderful years with her by his side.Wanda brought new happiness to Bert and his children.Family was the most important part of his life which included frequent family gatherings.Bert served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict.He then spent a life time career in the Aerospace and Nuclear industries.He was involved in many exciting projects which included being able to see many rocket launches at Cape Kennedy.He was always proud of his involvement in the space race and the quest to put a man on the moon.

During his retirement years he loved being the Walmart door greeter in Perry, Utah.He had an infectious smile and made many friends while in this position.His biggest talent was being a people person.He was an avid hunter who experienced success that most only dream about.Two of his trophy bucks along with his stories were published in many record books and magazines.

He was a very dedicated convert-member of the LDS Church.He served in many different positions including Bishop at a young age.Bert especially enjoyed working with the youth and had a big influence on many young men over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda, his children: Daniel (Tammy) Freed, Ellen (Bryan) Spaulding, Marianne (Glen) Smith, Stefanie (Todd) Butte, Blake (Yasmin) Freed, and his step-children: Anna Mooy, Starla Woodbury, and Daniel Mooy.Bert was also preceded in death by his son, Scott Freed, and Wanda’s son, William A. Mooy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in the Mantua LDS Chapel, 237 S. Willard Peak Rd., Mantua, UT.

A viewing will be Friday, August 16, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT and on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Church.

Interment will be in the Mantua Cemetery.
