Ogden couple celebrates 70 years
Gloria Marie Maynard and Charles William Christiansen celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Aug. 9. The Christiansen family shared a dinner party together to celebrate the occasion.
They were married on Aug. 9, 1943.
He was born and raised on the old family homestead in Pleasant
Grove. She was raised on the family farm in Riverton. The two
met and struck up an immediate friendship when Gloria hired on with her sister to pick raspberries for the season at the Christiansen farm.
During their courtship, he would often hitchhike from Pleasant
Grove to Riverton to visit his sweetheart, and sometimes had to walk home. After a brief courtship, they were married. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple, and they continued to be active in the LDS Church.
While Charley served with the U.S. Navy, they made their home at
many Navy bases. Their favorite was time spent at Pensacola, Fla.,
where they began life as a family.
Charley’s and Gloria’s children are Barry Christiansen and Kay Henley, Diane and Nolan Birt, Clayton and Debbie Christiansen, and Kendall Christiansen. They have 19 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
