OGDEN -- Police have a suspected arsonist in custody -- just not the one they believe has been setting the fires near the Ogden Parkway Trail System.
According to a news release from the Ogden Fire Department, a person was taken into custody Tuesday morning after crews extinguished a kitchen fire at the person's home, at 671 20th Street, around 4:40 a.m.
By the time crews arrived, flames were reaching the ceiling, but two police officers put out most of the fire with extinguishers. By then, the occupant of the home had fled and was hiding across the street, according to the release.
The office of the Fire Marshall is investigating the fire, but it's believed to have been intentionally set. Total damage was estimated at $3,000, though no one was injured.
The fire does not appear to have any connection to the recent string of suspected arson near the parkway trail system. Police are still looking for the culprits in those 11 grass fires that have sprung up since August 11.
