The article in the health section highlighting a gentleman hiking the trail to Malan's Peak was disturbing (Aug. 13, "2,500 hikes"). There is nothing admirable about a man who uses public lands/trails as his personal garbage bin and definitely nothing healthy (smells, flies).
His behavior is discourteous, thoughtless towards other hikers and hopefully illegal. He is a poor example of a steward of public lands. What has he left on other trails he has hiked? His leftover lunches or worst? He could clean up after himself which is what would be required of my seven-year-old granddaughter.
