VERNAL -- One youth football coach has been charged with assaulting another coach who was reaching out to shake hands when he got a punch instead.
Charges also were filed against a second man in the assault.
The Deseret News reports the scuffle took place Saturday outside Vernal Junior High School during a game organized by parents and volunteers for fifth and sixth graders.
The Vernal Youth Football Ute Conference is unaffiliated with local school or recreation districts.
Coach Johnny Hamilton and Equator Edward Mamea, have been ordered to appear in Vernal justice court Sept. 10 on charges of misdemeanor assault. The victim wasn't identified.
Assistant Vernal Police Chief Keith Campbell calls the scuffle an isolated incident.
