Emil and Lillian McBrayer of Layton will celebrate their 60th weddinganniversary on Aug. 28. Family from California joined other family and friends earlier this month for a dinner party at Mountain View Baptist Church in Layton.
They were raised in Morehead, Ky. He was raised on the old family farm outside of town, and she was a city girl from downtown Morehead. They were married on Aug. 28, 1953, in Morehead. They moved to the bay area of Northern California, where a couple of his older brothers were already living.
He worked in the grocery business as a produce manager for 35 years before retiring. After his retirement, they moved to Layton in 1994 to be closer to their sons and their families.
His hobbies are making small furniture items in his wood shop, especially bird houses. He also helps with maintenance needs at Mountain View Baptist Church, and enjoys an occasional round of golf, especially with his sons. In earlier years, he enjoyed golfing, carrying a 4 handicap. Once he shot a 69 on a course in Oakland, Calif.
Her hobbies are quilting and working on crossword puzzles. She is part of the kitchen staff at Mountain View Baptist Church. She enjoys cooking and being a hostess when the family gathers at their home for major events, especially during the holiday season.
Both enjoy serving at Mountain View Baptist Church, where they say they have made many dear friends.
Their children and spouses are The Rev. Rick and Debbie McBrayer, and Roger and Laura McBrayer. They have five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
