CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The game between BYU and Virginia has resumed after a two-hour, nine-minute severe weather delay at the end of the first quarter Saturday.
Fans were asked to leave the stadium and take shelter in their vehicles or nearby buildings as lightning and rain approached.
The public address announcer said a lightning warning mandated the clearing of the stadium. Atlantic Coast Conference policy holds that a stadium must be cleared and play suspended when lightning is within 6 miles of a venue. Some fans were slow to comply until a severe lightning warning was issued.
The game resumed at 6:20 p.m.
BYU leads 7-3 at halftime.
