OGDEN -- Ogden police said a man was shot to death early Saturday in central Ogden.
A press release said the man was found on the 1700 block of Lincoln Avenue. Officers were dispatched at 1:18 a.m. to find a man dead on the sidewalk after witnesses reported hearing an argument and gunshots.
"The victim, a 26-year-old male, had been shot and was deceased," said the press release.
Sunday the victim was identified by police as Robert Santos Soto Jr.
Lt. Danielle Croyle of Ogden police investigations said the man lived on Lincoln near where his body was found. No specifics were given about how far his residence was from the location of the body. There also were no details about the number of shots fired and what gun or guns were involved.
Police said later Saturday they were in the preliminary stages of the investigation. No one had been arrested for the shooting.
Police asked for anyone with any information to call police dispatchers at 801-629-8221.
The death was Ogden's first reported homicide of 2013.
There were two homicides in 2012.
On Jan. 4, Matthew David Stewart shot and killed Ogden police officer Jared Francom as narcotics strike force officers tried to serve a drug search warrant. Stewart and several officers were wounded in the gun battle.
Stewart apparently hanged himself in the Weber County Jail this spring while awaiting trial.
On Oct. 20, 2012, Marnie Stark, 38, of Ogden, was found dead and her live-in boyfriend, Jeffrey Dean White, 43, was charged with her murder.
In November, White was found hanged in his jail cell.
