OGDEN — Weber State football player Oran Maxwell has been suspended for his involvement in a fight, Big Sky Conference commissioner Doug Fullerton and Weber State University announced on Tuesday.

Maxwell, a redshirt freshman running back from Orlando, Fla., left the bench area and threw a punch with 2 minutes and 45 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of Weber State’s 50-40 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday. Maxwell was ejected from the game.

NCAA football rules state that a player involved in a fight during the second half of a contest is disqualified for the remainder of the game, as well as the first half of the following contest.

Weber State coach Jody Sears accepted the first-half suspension issued by the Big Sky and chose to enforce the suspension for a full game. Maxwell will sit out Weber State’s game at Utah on Saturday.

“We take these issues very seriously and will not tolerate this type of behavior from members of our football program,” Sears said.
