GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- It was a longshot to start with, but the Raptors' Pioneer League playoff chances are over.
So is their streak of four consecutive playoff appearances.
The Raptors' hopes were shut down by major league pitcher Roy Oswalt, on a rehab assignment from the Colorado Rockies.
Oswalt allowed just three hits over 5 2/3 shutout innings, walking one and striking out two in Grand Junction's 3-1 win Tuesday at Suplizio Field.
Oswalt was there while recovering from a strained left hamstring that has kept him on the disabled list since July 8.
Ryan Garvey, son of former Ogden (and L.A.) Dodger Steve Garvey, hit his fourth homer of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Grand Junction scored single runs in the first, seventh and eighth innings on the way to victory.
Garvey and Cesar Galvez each collected two hits for the Rockies, who were limited to just six on the night.
Luis De Paula (3-5), Ogden's opening day starter, lasted 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits, though he walked four and struck out three.
Michael Johnson and Ricky Perez each also allowed a run in relief for Ogden.
For the first time in his five seasons as skipper of the Raptors, Damon Berryhill will not be managing in the playoffs.
Catcher Kyle Farmer had three of Ogden's seven hits. Adam Law singled and stole second in the eighth inning and scored on Joey Curletta's single to center for the Raptors' only run Tuesday.
After losing to the Rockies on Monday, Ogden (34-37, 14-19 second half) needed to win its remaining six games and have a complicated scenario play out between Idaho Falls and Orem to make the playoffs. The Chukars are currently in first place in the South.
Grand Junction (32-39, 11-22) won the South Division first-half title and will host Games 2 and 3 of the division series.
The Raptors have lost three straight at Grand Junction since sweeping a four-game series from in-state rival Orem at home.
Ogden ends its four-game set with the Rockies tonight at 7 p.m. before returning to Lindquist Field for a four-game homestand to close out the 2013 season.
