DRAPER -- A suspect in the killing of a Utah police officer is recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Unified Police detectives said Thursday that Timothy Walker's condition has been upgraded to serious from critical.
Walker's girlfriend, who was shot in the back, also is improving, and she's talking with detectives, who are treating her as another victim of the shooting of Draper police Sgt. Derek Johnson. Traci Vaillancourt's condition has been upgraded to fair from critical.
Police believe Walker killed Johnson as he sat in his patrol car early Sunday after stopping to investigate a Volvo parked oddly along a road, then shot his girlfriend and himself.
A viewing of the fallen officer is set for Thursday evening, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Friday. Both services will be held at the Maverick Center in West Valley City.
