I was saddened Friday, Sept. 6, as I watched the services for fallen officer Sgt. Derek Johnson. He was obviously a great person that made positive impacts on the lives of many that he came in contact with.
What saddened me more was the thought that at the time of Sgt. Johnson's funeral, the individual police believe responsible for his death was laying in a Salt Lake Hospital bed, having a nice lunch and receiving top-notch medical care. All at the expense of the law-abiding taxpayers.
In short, every person that was mourning Sgt. Johnson's death, including his family, has to help pay for the treatment of his alleged killer. Something is wrong with this!
