BRIGHAM CITY -- A 45-year-old man and his 16-year-old stepdaughter were found dead in their home Tuesday after an apparent murder-suicide.
Brigham City Lt. Mike Nelsen said police were called to 545 N. 100 East around 5:30 p.m. when the mother came home and found her daughter, Alix Norman, dead in the basement. When police arrived, they found Michael Woodruff also dead, with a .40-caliber handgun nearby. Both died of apparent gunshot wounds.
Nelsen said police believe Woodruff shot Norman, then himself. A possible motive was not clear, and Nelsen said several family members were astonished because the two had a seemingly good relationship.
Investigators were still on scene late Tuesday night, Nelsen said, adding that autopsies will be done on the bodies.
"We'll see if we can find some answers," he said.
The family's dog was also shot and killed.
