OGDEN -- Friday the 13 may not have been the best night for the Ogden Tigers to schedule their homecoming game, especially against a team like the Logan Grizzlies.
Logan quarterback Chase Nelson threw five first-quarter touchdowns as the Grizzlies pounded the Ogden Tigers 61-13 at Maurice "Pete" Conroy Field on Friday night.
The win sets up a Region 5 showdown between undefeated Logan and Roy.
"Roy has a great team," Logan coach Mike Favero said. "Talent-wise, they might be the most talented team in the region. It was good for us to win the first game in region, and we're looking forward to a great opportunity to play a great team next week."
Nelson also rushed for a touchdown and finished off his night just before the half, throwing for nearly 200 yards on an 11 of 14 performance.
Junior receiver Chad Artist caught a pair of touchdowns for the Grizzlies and backup QB Kyler Freeman logged over 100 yards through the air, including a pair of touchdowns, and rushed for plenty more.
Logan's defense intercepted Ogden quarterback Cameron Mortenson three times, one of which was returned for six points by senior safety McKay Johns.
Mortenson finished the night 15 of 34 for 241 yards for the Tigers.
Ogden finally got on the board in the third quarter as junior running back Porter Smith took a pitch from Mortenson and scampered in from 32 yards out.
Ogden added one more score on an electrifying 61-yard punt return by senior Josh Shackleford in the fourth quarter.
* SKY VIEW 45, BONNEVILLE 7: At Washington Terrace, Friday night turned into the Braxton Godderidge show. The Bobcats star ran for four TDs as Sky View built a 35-0 halftime bulge.
Bonneville got on the board late via a Kysen Hall to Spencer Bouwhuis from 25 yards out. JT Wood added the PAT.
* LAYTON CHRISTIAN 20, GUNNISON 14: At Layton, the Eagles moved to 2-0 in 2-A North play with a hang-on-for-dear life win over Gunnison.
Grayson Jackson got the scoring started with a 1-yard scoring plunge. Bijan McCall added a two-point PAT run.
Jack Chandler ran in from 40 yards out, then Marquis Gibson ripped off a 45-yard TD run in the second half. Gunnison added a late TD to tighten the game up, as Layton Christian missed a pair of PATs.
But the Eagles' defense held strong. LCA is 3-1 overall.
